1. Understand Your Flow Range
Determine the minimum and maximum flow rates you need to control. Choose an MFC that can operate comfortably within this range with optimal accuracy (typically 20–100% of full scale).
2. Accuracy and Repeatability
For most laboratory and industrial applications, accuracy of ±1% of reading and repeatability of ±0.5% are sufficient. For critical applications, look for higher specs.
3. Gas Compatibility
Check the wetted materials (body, seals, valves) against your process gases. Stainless steel is compatible with most gases; special alloys may be needed for corrosive gases.
4. Response Time
For fast‑changing processes, choose MFCs with settling times under 100ms. For steady‑state applications, slower response times may be acceptable.
5. Communication and Integration
MFCs offer various interfaces: analog (0‑5V, 4‑20mA), RS485 Modbus, ProfiNet, DeviceNet, and EtherNet/IP. Choose one that integrates seamlessly with your control system.
6. Pressure Drop
Consider the pressure drop across the MFC. Low pressure drop is important for systems with limited upstream pressure.
7. Maintenance and Calibration
Look for MFCs with easy‑to‑clean flow paths and long‑term stability. Regular calibration ensures accuracy.
